To enjoy the visit we recommend an audio guide or a guided tour to learn all the secrets of the Colosseum. Inside the archaeological site there is no detailed information and there is a risk of taking the classic photos without learning about its history.

Is it possible to visit the Colosseum at night?

Yes, during the warmer months, night tours of the Colosseum are organized. These offer a unique and enchanting experience, away from the large crowds, with a magical atmosphere under the lights that illuminate the ancient amphitheatre.

Respect the Colosseum

Access to areas closed to the public is forbidden, you must only follow the paths that are open to the public and you must not lean over parapets or railings.

It is strictly forbidden to engrave your name on the most famous monument in Rome. The fine for damaging this historical and artistic treasure ranges from € 2.500 to € 15.000.
Better to take a photo as a souvenir.

How to dress to visit the Colosseum?

It is advisable to wear appropriate footwear; flip-flops and high heels are not recommended.

If you visit the Colosseum in the summer, it is advisable to bring a hat and a bottle of water as the whole visit takes place under the sun and you will feel the heat of the city.

Clothing appropriate to the place is required and formal dress, masks and costumes are not allowed.

Avoid rip-offs

Outside the Colosseum you may be stopped by hawkers of everything and "attacked by gladiators", men dressed as gladiators who will offer to take a picture with you but will charge you €10. Stay away.

If you are hungry after visiting the Colosseum, we advise you not to stop at the first restaurant you come across, but always check the menu before entering, and if you prefer something quicker and cheaper, we recommend the classic pizza by the slice.

Is the Colosseum accessible to people with disabilities?

Yes, the Colosseum is partially accessible for people with disabilities. Elevators and ramps provide access to specific areas within the monument. It’s recommended to check ahead of time for detailed accessibility information and to help plan your visit.

Can I bring food and drinks into the Colosseum?

No, bringing food into the Colosseum is not allowed. However, you can bring a small bottle of water, which is particularly useful during the summer months. There are water fountains along the route where you can refill your bottle.

Large bags, backpacks and trolleys are not allowed in the Colosseum. It is advisable to bring only a small rucksack or shoulder bag. There is no luggage storage service at the monument.

Yes, there are discounts for students and senior citizens. You must present a valid ID or student card at the time of purchase or entry.

Can I visit the Colosseum for free?

The Colosseum is free for European Union citizens under 18 and over 65. It's also free for everyone on the first Sunday of the month, but these days are often very crowded, so it’s advisable to arrive early.
