The best time to visit the Colosseum

The Colosseum is visited by millions of visitors every year. It is very likely that you will find long lines to enter and inside the Amphitheater.
Following the anti-crowd measures, the ticket can be bought exclusively online and the people inside are limited.

In any case, the best time to visit the Colosseum is early in the morning or around 13:00 on weekdays.

We do not recommend visiting on weekends and holidays when many people are not working.

It takes at least 1 hour and 30 minutes to visit the Colosseum, while approximately 3 hours are needed for the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. The duration varies depending on how deeply you want to explore the history of the monuments.

When to visit the Colosseum?

The best time of year to visit the Colosseum is winter (excluding December) when there are fewer tourists in Rome. The opening hours are shorter compared to other seasons, but they allow for a more relaxed visit with fewer crowds.
If you choose the early afternoon, be aware that in winter the Colosseum closes at 4:30 PM.
The best days to visit the Colosseum are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday because most tourists visit Rome on the weekend, and some extend their visit by one day, taking advantage of Monday and Friday.
